To custom design a free Google Site and add a link button, follow these steps:
Step 1: Create or Access Your Google Site
- Log in to Google using your Google account.
- Open Google Sites by navigating to Google Sites.
- If you haven’t created a site yet, click "Create" to start a new site.
- If you already have a site, click on your existing site to edit.
Step 2: Customize Your Site Layout
- In the Google Sites editor, you'll have options to customize your site's layout and design.
- On the right-hand sidebar, you’ll find options to Insert, Pages, Themes, and more.
- Choose a theme that suits your style. This will set the overall color, fonts, and design of your site.
Step 3: Add a Section for the Link Button
- On your site, decide where you want to add the button.
- You can either add a new section or modify an existing one. To add a section:
- In the editor, click Insert on the right panel.
- Choose Text Box, Image, or Embed depending on your design preference.
- You can also add Layouts such as one with a title and text, or a blank space where you can later add the button.
Step 4: Add a Link Button
- Click the section where you want the button to appear.
- In the right-hand menu under Insert, click on Button.
- You’ll be prompted to:
- Name the Button: Enter a name (e.g., "Click Here", "Learn More", or "Visit Our Site").
- Enter the Link URL: Paste the URL where you want the button to link (e.g., a website, a page on your site, or an external URL).
- After entering the button name and URL, click Insert.
- The button will appear on your page, and you can drag it around to adjust its position.
Step 5: Customize the Button Design (Optional)
- Google Sites offers limited customization for the appearance of the button. However, you can adjust:
- The size of the text.
- The alignment (left, center, or right).
- Spacing around the button by dragging and adjusting elements around it.
Step 6: Publish Your Site
- After making all the changes, click the Publish button in the top-right corner of the Google Sites editor.
- Choose the website URL (this will be in the form of
sites.google.com/view/your-site-name
). - Click Publish again to make your site live.
Step 7: Test the Button
- Once your site is live, visit it and click the button to ensure that it correctly links to the desired page or URL.
Additional Tips:
- Button Style: Google Sites automatically styles the button based on the theme you've chosen. If you want more advanced styling options (like custom colors or hover effects), you may need to embed custom CSS using the Embed HTML option.
- Linking to External Sites: If you're linking to an external website, be sure to use the full URL (e.g.,
https://www.example.com
). - Multiple Buttons: You can add as many buttons as you want to your site and customize them for different actions (e.g., "Contact Us", "Shop Now").
By following these steps, you can easily create a custom design for your Google Site and add a link button to direct visitors to other pages or external websites.
